The Naked Blog

From child to adult, from blushing and shy to delivering seminars in front of 100's of nudists. My name is Abby Turner, I am retired but continue to council people through seminars and private sessions.

My original blog will be posted here as well as new posts because I believe the information is important and well worth the time and energy. Original posting dates may not stay the same but may reflect the date I moved the post. I've been asked not to delete my original blog, sending it to the dark, nowhere void of the internet space; that being said, I will move the information here.

Please bare with me, it will be very time consuming and emotional at times. I will also include Lisa's posts as I believe her posts were and still are very valuable and informative to common issues, topics and discussions.

Raging Hormones–Lisa

We received another question regarding teenagers, so my Aunt Abby (that sounds so weird) thought it would be a good one for me to answer.  This question has to do with boys coming of age.

“Hi, I’m 16 year old boy.  My family is, my Mom, me and 3 sisters, one older (18) and two younger (15 and 13).  My problem is when we hangout in the nude, I get erections.  I can’t help it.  I don’t sit there thinking about sex with my sisters or mom.  I think about sex in general, yes, but not about them.  I also feel bad because I know that being nude isn’t about sex.

I’m sure seeing them naked does add to my thoughts and stuff but I don’t know what to do.  I’ve tried several things including masturbating before hanging out but with in minutes of being around everyone naked, I’m hard again.  We are a nudist family and have been since I was about 5.  My issues started a few years ago, but now it’s just getting worse than it ever has been. I do cover up with a towel to hide my erection but it lasts a long time.  Sometimes, I get an erection when we are playing a game, it’s like out of the blue I’m hard as can be.  Is this normal?  What am I to do?”

I’ve been around a lot of boys as they “mature”.  Seeing an erection for a long time nudist is not a big concern.  It happens especially with boys coming of age.  It’s hormones, there is nothing you can do about it.  I’ve seen boys in their teens, in their twenties, and all the way up to older men.  It happens.  There is nothing to be embarrassed about, shy or uncomfortable about.  You will reach a point when getting an erection while being around nudists will be less and less.  Eventually, getting an erection will be controllable (to a point) and the more you are use to being around nudists while hormones are raging, the less often it will happen.

From a young girls point of view, it is not embarrassing to us to see especially if the girl is raised as a nudist.  As girls get older and their hormones are raging, yes they may look at a guy with an erection in a sexual way.

You are doing the right things.  Masturbating will help, covering with a towel (but not out of embarrassment; out of consideration for others around you), also if you have to get up and leave for awhile until your erection dissipates, it’s ok.

Hopefully your mom and sisters understand and are not making an issue out of it and are not teasing or making fun of you.

Hope this helps.

Teenage Shaving–Lisa

This is an email question that came to my Aunt and we figured that maybe it was time it was answered by a teenager – me.

“I’m in 9th grade and just started the school year.  For most of the summer I have been shaving my pubic hair.  I got tired of always trimming to make sure nothing was showing from my bikini bottoms.  I’ve always thought it looked bad, tacky, well gross.  I don’t shave it all, but most of it.  It’s not like I have a lot of pubic hair yet but obviously there is some.  I never thought about having to shower with girls at school.  I don’t know what to expect or maybe I should stop shaving until next year’s summer break.  I would like to hear your advice.”

I started shaving and trimming almost as soon as my pubic hair started to grow.  I didn’t like the look compared to seeing what my Mom and Aunt do.  They both shave/trim their pubic hair and I really like the look rather than having a big mass of hair down there.

I was unsure what would happen the first time I showered after gym class.  It was a mix of expressions.  Some of the girls called me some pretty nasty names (which I won’t repeat but I’m sure you get the idea), some of the girls actually said they liked the idea and were going to try it and of course the “better than anyone” group pushed their noses in the air walking away saying more bad words.

One of my friends was showering when all of this happened (she knew I shaved) made one statement that shut up several of the girls… “Why are you even looking down there?”  Let me tell you, everyone got very quiet for a few seconds and some of the girls never said another word.

I was quick to get over the bad reactions by reminding myself I am being me.  I am comfortable with shaving/trimming and I like it.  I am not going to change because of someone’s closed minded attitude.

Now, a lot of girls shave and trim their pubic hair.  Even some of the girls that did the name calling and a few of the high and mighty girls do too.

Just remember, you shave/trim for you.  No one has to like it or accept it but you.  If it breaks friendships, then they weren’t really friends to begin with.  Sorry but that’s the harsh truth.

Me, I say, shave/trim and enjoy it.  Just be you.

Nudity At School–Lisa

Ok, so today was a tough day at school.  Word got out that my family and I are nudists.  Now, some of my friends already knew, but the bullies, jocks, princesses, beauty queens and quibs are making such fools of themselves.

The torment, insults, the razing, disgusting looks, the “ew, stay away from me”, name calling, sexual jokes and motions, how dang immature can they really be?

The councilor came running to my aid trying to console me, make sure I was ok, trying to convince me to call my parents and I said no.  I’m not the one who has a problem with my nudity.  It’s not like I go around the school with nothing on.  Although, it would be more comfortable!@!

As I told the councilor, it’s not my fault those kids are insecure with who they are, their bodies, and their minds.  The councilor of course looked shocked (you should have seen the look on her face!!), not knowing what to do, she asked ME what I wanted her to do.  I had a great thought but before I said it, I already knew the councilor could not do it.

My Thought:

Round up all the kids that were giving me a hard time, take them to the gym and….. you guessed it.  Make them strip, stand naked in front of the whole school (for those watching and laugh…. bam! they get to join the naked kids), none of the naked kids are allowed to leave or get dressed until the obvious signs that show they are ok with being naked.

1. Are no longer holding their hands covering their breasts

2. Are no longer cupping their hands between their legs hiding their private parts.

3. Are no longer turning red from embarrassment and are their natural color.

4. Admit to the crowd that being nude really isn’t bad and feels kind of good now that they have experienced it.

Me, of course I knew the councilor couldn’t do it, but it didn’t make her laugh at the suggestion.  She did smile and said she wished there was more she could do.  Me, the smart butt suggested instead of a pajama day, we have a nude day.  She just winked and said her door is always open should I need to talk or if the kids get out of hand and I was not able to handle it anymore.

From a teenage nudist who is dang proud of it! See ya!

Body Modifications and Nudism

Lately there has been a lot of discussion regarding body modifications and how they are viewed in the nudist communities.  For the most part, body modifications are viewed no different with nudists as with clothed communities other than the nudist community may be more accepting of the modifications just as we do not judge and accept all body shapes, sizes and color.  Of course there are always exceptions in all communities, but we are talking the majority.

Piercings, tattoos, parts augmentation are all examples of body modifications.  The reasons behind having any of these (or other) modifications are wide and varying.  Some people categorize body modifications the same as hair style or coloring.  In most respects, this is very true and to the point.

A person styles or colors their hair because they believe it makes them look pretty or handsome, younger or more distinguished.  This is of course considered acceptable in most communities and lifestyles. On several occasions while at resorts, I have noticed men and women who have dyed their hair as well as their pubic hair to match.  This is considered acceptable, no issue, no matter the color.  Where as in clothed communities, someone walking around with bright green hair (and maybe their pubic hair to match) there are always stares, comments, looks of disgust, etc.  In some case, people even shy away or are afraid of the person with the bright green, blue, red or purple hair. Not so much if at all in the nudist community.  Nudists tend to accept people for who they are and how they look.

Pierced ears has been done by both men and women of all ages, for decades; actually for centuries.  Yet if a person has multiple ear piercings or enlarged holes, this is not considered acceptable by many.  If we take a look at different cultures around the globe and go back in time, there is strong evidence to show pierced body parts were accepted either because of religious reasons, or comfort reasons, or as part of a ritual signifying a certain status; age, class or profession.
Piercing body parts is nothing new, even when piercing of the genitalia.  Piercing of the genitalia, centuries ago was done for several reasons, where as today, most genitalia piercing is for looks just as piercing the ears.

Just because people are not use to seeing it, does not make it unacceptable or wrong.  However, in some nudist resorts, having jewelry in, on, or around the genitalia, is not allowed.  Those resorts feel genitalia piercing is meant to draw attention to that region and therefore is not acceptable.  I do not believe genitalia piercing is anymore sexual than getting your hair styled.  Yes, some genitalia piercings are done because it may increase sexual pleasure but then again, so are some hair styles.  In most cases, I believe piercings, as it is with hair styles, are done to make a person feel prettier, they like the look.... Personal gratification.

So, right or wrong, who are we to judge?  Like it or not, obviously, someone likes it.  So don't judge the person, if you don't like the look, don't look!

A Confidence Within, Makes Us Proud

Study after study has proven nudity early in life builds character, confidence and a sense of security with in one's self. Young children growing up through the years in such a nudist lifestyle has made what is considered "taboo" in modern society a normal every day environment. The taboo of being naked is done away with and children are more open about their bodies, accepting of others, and are healthier physically, emotionally and mentally. All shame is removed and children are more vocal about their feelings and curiosity. As these children become adults they become better established in communities, more intelligent and more confident.

The confidence learned helps nudists in many ways. Physically these people notice the changes in their bodies from the inside out with little to no consideration or embarrassment to the body. Physical condition and appearances of body shape, color, or size is not considered relevant. Because there is no stigma encasing nudity the children and adults are very comfortable with themselves so any visible changes are expected and considered normal; an everyday experience. In other words, body changes during growth and maturity are expected, seen as normal and are not cause for alarm or stress. Even when body changes or differences are noticed, it is accepted as the fact it is; no one's body is the same. This mentality quickly becomes evident and in fact carries over into many facets of their lives. Early and continued exposure to the naked body has made children and adults more secure and confident in their appearance which makes them more confident in everyday life experiences.

Confidence builds strong character, well behaved and well mannered people not easily swayed by peer pressure. Nudist children and adults grow up tending to make better choices and thinking of others instead of just themselves. This has become evident in most every study ever done regarding nudist families and/or children.

The Realization

While reading this and other research or studies concerning children regarding any subject remember this: from the moment we bring children home from the hospital, we are teaching them right from wrong. Do you agree?

As the children grow, become older, explore, investigate and test parents, again we are giving the child input and teaching them right from wrong. Do you agree?

As a child ventures out with parents or siblings eventually it will be time to cross the street. The child approaches the cross walk but forgets to look before crossing. The child is scolded or lectured about the dangers or at the very least and most common is told "What have I told you? Do not cross the street without look both ways first". Teaching the child right from wrong. Do you agree?

A child slips out of his/her diaper or runs out of their bedroom before putting clothes on. The child is lectured it is not appropriate and should go put clothes on, no one should see "their privates". Teaching them right from wrong. Do you agree?

This is WHY and the ONLY reason why child and adults believe nudity is wrong. As children, most are taught it is wrong to be going around in front of others without wearing any clothes.

No where in the Bible does it state we are to wear clothing. NO WHERE does it state or insinuate it is a sin to go around naked. If someone tells you the Bible does say to wear clothing, ask them the verse.

We the people, the humans of shy and shameless are who have taught for centuries it is not proper to go around without covering ourselves. Hence is the problem with society today and has been since the 1800's. The United States, to this day is still one of the strictest countries regarding not only nudity but also sex (which is a whole different story).

Please keep this in mind as you read through the tutorials, research, studies, statistics and first person accounts told in their own words.

Research and Studies

The research and studies I mention here (some) are available on the Internet with the exception of one or two. Some of the information provided here is from my Father's, Jame's and my step mom's research.
As most of you know my father and James held doctorates and my mom was a clinical lab researcher also holding a couple degrees and doctorates. Child psychology was my step mom's area of study and as you know I followed in her foot steps. Foot steps I am very proud of and to this day enjoy.
Some of the studies performed in the early seventies were the beginning of reliable, focused, and legitimate research of the nudist life style. This research immediately branched out to far reaching topics and categories cover a wide range of factor studies both controlled and uncontrolled.

Some of the research I will be referring to:
Jasper, Hastings, and Connally. 1970-73
Collin, Hastings, Turner and Turner. 1971-75
Jasper, Turner and Turner. 1975-80
Marilyn Story. 1979
Goldmans. 1981
Lewis and Janda. 1988
Okami Study. 1995
Nevgy. 2004

In The Beginning

I was raised in a nudist family, we were nude most of the time. In our house, out in the backyard, in the swimming pool, and even laying out tanning. When I say "we" I mean my dad, mom, two sisters and later my step-mom and step-brother. The second family occured when I was about 10 after my mother left my dad and us three kids. My dad was killed in an automobile accident and I went to live with my step-mom and step-brother who lost the man of their house in the same car accident as my dad (our dads worked together after college, that's how they met and how we all became close friends and family).
I was actually raised around my second family. We had known each other for years hanging out together, family outings with one another and just partying in the backyard for birthdays and anniversaries. My new mom was just that; she always treated me as one of her own and never favored her real son over me but at times I think I got special treatment from her.
My new brother has always been cool. That special treatment I mentioned, he said I was deserving and said it was nice that mom got the girl she always wanted. My two sisters were always a pain and never treated anyone with respect. They demanded everything they thought they should have, never worked for a dime and crapped on all of us every chance they got. As they got older they went to live with my first mom and never looked back. Honestly, I never looked for them, unfortunately, there was no love lost between us.

So there you have a brief run down of my family/friends. We continued our lifestyle as we had before the dramatic changes in our lives. Living as nudists never seemed unusual or abnormal. I knew that most of the children I grew up with were not involved in the nudist lifestyle, however there came a time when I did met a girl from high school at one of the resorts but no issue was every made of it. In fact, she was relieved when she saw me and couldn't believe that I had been living the lifestyle I had for so long. She ended up becoming a good friend and to this day is still enjoying the nudist lifestyle.

Nudist Does Not Equal Sex

I hear the statement, "it will cause orgies and all those kids to have sex" or "just asking for trouble". What are they referring to? Nudist, yes. These statements are from people that do not know what nudism or naturism is regarding. The free feeling lifestyle does not mean it is an early sixties love fest like so many people believe it to be.
It is a way a life. It is a confidence builder. People are more aware of their body and are comfortable with the way they are rarely declaring "I wish my body looked like...." It doesn't happen, at least not often.
There studies and research and scientific tests that have proven how healthy nudism really can be for a person.
